Founded in 1973 by the late Ali Iligbeyle and his wife Halima Mohamud, Iligbeyle Restaurant has always been a proud symbol of Somali hospitality and tradition. The couple were also the visionaries behind three other renowned restaurants of Mogadishu’s golden era—Mareeg, Galgaduud, and Baar Gallery—all celebrated throughout the 1970s and 1991s as some of the city’s finest dining establishments.
While many restaurants were lost during the civil war, Iligbeyle survived, remaining a beloved family-owned restaurant that continues to carry forward its legacy of authentic flavors and community spirit.
In 2024, we took a bold step forward by upgrading our spaces and services to meet the needs of today’s Mogadishu. Alongside our celebrated restaurant, we now offer a modern wedding hall, facilities for meetings and seminars, and spacious VIP sections for private family gatherings. With expanded menus that include traditional Somali cuisine, as well as European and Asian dishes, Iligbeyle is redefining dining while staying true to its roots.
Our Culinary Philosophy
At Iligbeyle, we celebrate the rich traditions of Somali and African cuisine.
Our passion lies in serving meals that feel like home—prepared with care, seasoned with tradition, and cooked the way our mothers and grandmothers have always done. From hearty breakfasts that energize your day to flavorful lunches and comforting dinners, every plate is a reflection of authentic Somali flavors and the vibrant African spirit.
We take pride in using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create nourishing, delicious meals. Our menu blends time-honored Somali recipes with the warmth of African hospitality, offering everything from aromatic rice dishes and tender grilled meats to spiced stews, breads, and refreshing drinks.
